New Years

Since the last blog I've been to 2 weddings, 3 birthday parties (ON THE SAME DAY) and an invite to a relative’s house every evening! Trying to juggle family, work and most importantly getting my sleep has been super difficult! Luckily I have 2 weeks of holiday and MY BIRTHDAY coming up.
Cake, food and more food! I think I may actually be getting sick of eating cake now ¬_¬

My birthday is a whole new topic.

According to my mum I am apparently too old to have a birthday party so we're all going out for a meal instead. Trying to organise all of my cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles to be in the same place at the same time is near enough impossible! I called up to book a table for 56 and the man on the phone was baffled! I don’t think he believed me to be honest LOL But hopefully we’ll see what happens on Saturday…

On the plus side, I've already started my Boxing Day shopping! Boots, jackets, shoes, clothes, make-up anything I wanted cause I’m the birthday girl! :D I cannot wait for Boxing Day, A nice cuppa, my laptop and a credit card the best combination there is ^_^

I cannot wait to be on holiday, I’m so tired that I tapped my uni card onto the DLR yesterday and didn't realise until I was half way down the escalator! I have a lot of work to do over the Christmas holiday, so I don't think I will get any time to myself and I fully need another holiday, hopefully soon…

But for now Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ^_^

Christmas Time

Hello again guys,

I’d like to start off with the fact that it has been cold as ice lately, and it does not seem to be getting any warmer. I feel like I don’t even want to leave my house most mornings, but unfortunately I can’t, I just recovered from a week of food poisoning after eating at Las Iguanas ¬_¬ It was horrible and overpriced, would definitely not recommend the one at the O2.

However, it has unfortunately not curbed my eating out habits, the best place so far this month is Loaded Burgers in Ilford! I had it once before but I didn’t really like it, this time I went for the Jerk Chicken burger it was so yummy along with my legendary Mojito!

On the plus side I watched the funniest film ever, I know I said that about the Nativity 3 but Horrible Bosses 2 was just so funny, it had me laughing so hard throughout the whole movie, along with the rest of the cinema! Would definitely recommend it as a must watch movie.

December is my birthday month = lots of presents! And they have already begun flying in! I got the best present a My Little Pony (well another one) and it is just too cute! As well as boots, clothes, makeup and lots of other stuff! Can’t wait for my actual party, should be fun a red and white party ^_^

I feel like I am procrastinating a lot in terms of my work load, I know I’ll get round to it but I feel like there’s a lot going on at the moment I have so much time but so little time at the same time. I’ve been doing a lot of work with my service users and creating different tools for them to work with, I think I am quite a creative person so I enjoy making things. My favourite day is Fridays, Art Therapy, we do the most awesome projects, card making, games, present making, tree decorating and hopefully soon snow globe making!

We just had our Christmas party, we had so much yummy food! Jerk Chicken, Jollof Rice, Onion Bhajis, Somosas and so much more! All cooked by us it was just so much fun and everyone loved it! Most said it was the best party they ever went to!

It has been a fun month so far but hopefully by the next blog I will have lots of stories to tell!

For now Toodles x

Swamped!

Hiya,

My Blog has come quite late this month as I have been absolutely SWAMPED with work on placement. I am enjoying working here so much, learning new things everyday and experiencing new things. I have met so many professionals that I will no doubt cross paths with when I become a Qualified Social Worker ^_^

On the bright side, I start at 10 EVERYDAY and it only takes me 30 minutes to get there, so that means enough sleep and no stressful nights trying to complete work for the next day. My social life however, has gotten more interesting, I have a lot more free time after work to go out, eat out, and watch films and best of all eat lots of desserts!

I have eaten out so much in the last few weeks I am pretty sure that I haven’t used any dishes in my house! Wake Up, Work, Eat, Work, Out to the Cinema/ Out to eat, Home, Sleep. Same routine every day and I love it!

I’ve been to watch Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Imitation Game, Nightcrawler, and The Nativity 3: Dude where’s my donkey? This was quite possibly the funniest and the worst film I’ve ever watched in my life, if you’re feeling down cause of life or coursework overload, go watch it, it is guaranteed to have you laughing just because of the storyline and acting. And of course a million reruns of Frozen!

My little sister’s birthday was this month and it was an absolute Frozen-fest, Frozen dress, Frozen cake and Frozen balloons. I have eaten so much cake and dessert and pies in the last couple of weeks that I could have opened up a shop! *drools* and more strawberry Mojitos!

I’ve been to a million and one weddings this month, even two in a day some weeks! Wedding season is hopefully coming to an end this month though, I swear I am running out of clothes to wear now! Wedding food seems to be improving, not that I eat anything past the starters anyway LOL!

Skills London 2014: Was AMAZING, it was so fun to work and represent the University of Greenwich! I also found my best friend working for our rivals Westminster! I have known her since I was 3 years old! Almost 17 years now :D

But anyway back to Skills London, it was so fun; there were so many different stalls, so much free cake and cookies and food! It was a really fun day doing what I do best, TALKING!

December the month of sales, Christmas and the most important event of the year, MY BIRTHDAY ^_^ There’ll be lots of pictures next month

Until the next blog…

BARCELONA!

Hiya Guys, I have exciting news for you all! I have just been on my first weekend dash away…. The destination this time was BARCELONA!

The first day we got there, not even an hour after we landed we were in need of emergency services! My friend had collapsed with stomach pain on the floor in the middle of the airport, all eyes were on us! Luckily it was nothing serious just a cramp and we went back to our hotel to settle in! What did we have for dinner? MCDONALDS! LOL some things never change..

It was absolutely beautiful; we did so much in such a small amount of time! We went sightseeing, ate lots and lots of food and went to the beach! We had 4 seasons in 4 days, sun, wind, thunderstorms, cloudy weather and lots of rain!

We went bike riding through Barcelona, to the beach at night time, because we woke up late every day! But it was still nice to relax and take romantic walks down along the beach near the water with the pretty Barcelona lights behind us.

We also visited Port Olympic, where there are over a hundred boats docked, and a whole strip of bars, restaurants and shisha lounges, which we obviously visited the shisha lounges not the bars :P I drank the most amazing non-alcoholic mojitos EVER! And I got the prettiest red roses ever!

We went for dinner in The Arena, where they used to do Bullfighting, we went up to the rooftop and the views were absolutely stunning!

We visited the Placa de les Cascades, which looked amazing, sadly the fountains were off, none the less it still looked beautiful during the night and the Sagrada Familia which was the first place I wanted to visit! But there was a thunderstorm the morning we went to visit which was not so fun to get caught up in.

The people in Barcelona were amazingly friendly, the amount of times we got lost and had to ask random people for directions, and they drove us all the way to the place! The only words in Spanish I know are Ola, Adios and Gracias but there were a lot of Asian people, who knew speaking Urdu would come in handy!? Thank you very much Star Plus!

We went for dinner in Las Ramblas, which is a whole strip of outdoor restaurants and souvenir shops, it was the most amazing little Turkish restaurant even, the food was amazing, and sadly very expensive! We got caricatures done, which I must add look nothing like me LOL but it was still funny to see!

The last day, we went to do a bit of shopping, and went bowling with our personal tour guide and chauffer Bablu Bhai (my friends cousin brother) and we were almost late for our flight, we got to the airport within 15 minutes and ran to the bag check in desk, checked in our bags and ran to make sure we didn’t miss our plane! Luckily we made it to our plane on time, the views from the plane were beautifully stunning, all the bright lights and being able to see the clouds! ….Then we came back to London just in time for the rain!

I still feel jetlagged while I write this blog, and it is also my last day working for the Enquiry Unit for a while, I’ll be on placement from Monday L

Until the next blog Adios x

Sightseeing

Hiya Guys,

My first teaching term is almost over, my placement is coming up in less than 20 days! I feel quite excited but also scared at the same time. I feel like this year’s teaching has been super intense, 5 days a week! But on the other hand it has also been really helpful in teaching us skills and theories that for the first time in forever actually make sense! They really are applicable to me and the course and the job that I will hopefully get at the end of my degree! I’ve had loads of hand-ins recently but I have been on top of them all, organising myself to make sure I leave plenty of time to check and recheck for mistakes.
Aside from being at University 5 days a week, I feel I deserved to splash out and splurge on myself so I’ve done a lot of shopping! Stationary, clothes, shoes, bags, phones and more stationary shopping! I love stationary and colours as you can tell by the colourful diary and pens.

I’ve managed to make time to watch loads of new films, Gone Girl, TMNT and loads of others! And of course ate a LOT of ice cream! There are so many new flavours out but America’s Birthday Cake will ALWAYS be my favourite but they sadly no longer stock it at Cineworld, I will however go on a quest in search of it!
I’ve also been eating out a lot, looking back at my statement I’m wondering if it was worth it. The most worth it was Afternoon Tea at Haagen Daaz, it was to die for! But they ran out of macaroons, I LOVE macaroons with a passion, but luckily I still got my macaroons from somewhere different! EEEEEK they are AMAZING! If you haven’t tried a macaroon before go try one now, they are better than anything ever!

I went to M&M world! It was like walking into a rainbow! There were so many colours and so many types of M&M’s, totally my favourite place on earth now :D

Scratch that, that’s a lie my favourite place on earth is the London Aquarium, I find the animals so interesting, the penguins are SUPERDUPER cute! And the yellow-belly turtles! It never gets old (I frequently visit because my partner LOVES fishes and the aquarium and turtles) and walks down Embankment at night are romantic and all that, with the pretty London lights and Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament lit up at night.
I will sadly be leaving my lovely job at the Enquiry Unit until March because I’ll be out on placement! But I will continue to keep you updated over the coming months…

Until the next blog x

My First Blog!

Hi guys as you can probably tell by my title my name is Shahera I am studying BA Social Work! Trust me it is not as boring as it sounds. University life is a LOT different from what I thought it would be, it literally just flies by. It feels as if I only started yesterday, but now I’m going into my second year of Uni. It really does go by in the blink of an eye.

When I walked in the first day everyone was quiet and shy, looking back on it now, it was because nobody knew how anyone was, what their likes and dislikes were or if they were mean people! I’m the baby in the class, the youngest out of everyone, when everybody started talking about their experience; I was scared they all had so much more experience than me, what chance did I have of passing the year?

Now, I could not imagine my life without them, they are literally my family. They take care of me, make sure I have completed my coursework, they even wake me up on time and most of all they are always there to help, even at 12 in the night!

The course itself is intense, a LOT of reading, researching, more reading, more reading and lots of colourful notes (I love using colours, colour coding, buying stationary – it’s become an addiction), hard work, late nights, non-existent social life and early mornings paid off! Because I passed. Yaay :D.

TIP: Do NOT leave coursework until the day its due, make sure you’ve done it in advance or you won’t get enough sleep and trust me you need your sleep!

TIP: KEEP ORGANISED! Make sure you buy a diary and update it every day otherwise things will slip your mind and you’ll start forgetting things, a phone can get lost but if you have it in a diary and get used to constantly checking it, it will help a lot!

But contrary to popular belief I haven’t just been sitting round lazing this summer, I secured a job with the University of Greenwich Enquiry Unit working in clearing, so if you’ve just come through clearing, I may have made your application for you!

It has been the best job ever. If you are attending this year, I would highly recommend applying for this job after University finishes, it really is rewarding and you get a decent pay out of it too! Which I am in need of because I am useless with my finances,

TIP: don’t spend all your student finance in one go, make sure you keep an emergency pot, in University there is ALWAYS an emergency.

TIP: Make sure you apply for your Oyster card in SEPTEMBER and don’t leave it till January like me, or you’ll end up spending more on travel than you need to!

This sadly is the end of my blog, but hopefully I’ll be back soon guys and dolls, until next time

Au revoir x
